History and devotion take center stage on this day trip to Montserrat and Girona from Barcelona. You'll discover the basilica of La Moreneta and the city where some of the scenes of the famous show Game of Thrones were filmed.
We'll meet at Carrer de Martí i Franquès, number 21, and from this spot in Barcelona, we'll head by bus to Montserrat, the sacred mountain of Catalonia.
After a roadtrip of about 1 hour, we'll reach this Natural Park, where we'll embark on a guided tour of the Santa Maria de Montserrat, one of the most revered basilicas in Catalonia. Inside this temple, you'll admire the sculpture of the Virgin of La Moreneta. Do you know why it has this name? You'll soon find out!
We'll continue our tour by visiting the atrium, the cloister, and the main square of the Abbey of Montserrat. Plus, you'll learn about the origins of this monastery and discover why this site has attracted the attention of different figures throughout history, like Leonardo da Vinci, Napoleon, and Hitler.
After the guided tour of Montserrat, we'll return to the bus and start an approximately 1.5-hour journey toward the city of Girona. Once there, we'll enjoy a walking tour of its picturesque old town.
We'll start our guided tour of Girona from an infrastructure designed by Gustave Eiffel himself. From the Pont de les Peixateries Velles, we'll see the beautiful colorful houses located on the shores of the Onyar River. Then, we'll stroll along the narrow streets of El Call, one of the best-preserved Jewish quarters of Europe.
Our next stop will take place at the stairs of the Girona Cathedral, which is sure to be familiar to fans of the show e seguro que les resultan familiares a los fans de la serie Game of Thrones. We'll tell you about the scenes that were filmed in the city!
After the Girona tour, you'll have 1 hour of free time for lunch on your own in the historic center.
Lastly, we'll head to the railway station to take a high-speed train to Barcelona. This approximately 40-minute journey will take you to the Barcelona-Santa station. At this spot in the City of Counts, we'll conclude this 9-hour day trip.
