On this day trip to Matera and Altamura, you'll visit Apulia and Basilicata, two of the most beautiful regions of Italy.
Description
After meeting at the Teatro Petruzzelli at the indicated time, we'll leave Bari behind to begin our day trip to Matera and Altamura. Welcome to the south of Italy!
Our first destination is Matera, a cave town that will take your breath away. Situated deep in a ravine, this town has an ancient rock-cut cave that was the first site in southern Italy to be recognised by Unesco.
Did you know that the inhabitants of Matera lived in cave houses until 1952? These created two districts called Sassi. We'll explore its winding cobbled streets as we discover the history and charm of this unique place. You're sure to love the panoramic views of the Murgia hills!
After visiting Matera, we'll head to Altamura. Once there, we'll immerse ourselves in the atmosphere of its historic centre as we stroll through its cobbled streets. You should also know that Altamura is known for its artisan bread, considered the best in Italy!
There, you'll have free time to eat, as well as the opportunity to try this delicious delicacy on your own in one of the local stone ovens.
Finally, we'll meet again to finish the excursion to Matera and Altamura back in Bari, where we'll arrive 7 hours after the beginning of the tour.
