After picking you up from your hotel in Boston, we'll leave the city center behind us and set off on an exciting day trip to Salem and Hammond Castle. Let's go!
Following a comfortable 1-hour bus journey, we'll arrive at Hammond Castle, the former home of renowned American inventor John Hays Hammond Jr. Did you know he's often considered the “Father of Radio Control”? During a 45-minute guided tour, we’ll dive into his groundbreaking contributions to electronics and innovation.
In addition to holding over 100 patents, Hammond was a passionate art collector. After the tour, you’ll have 45 minutes of free time to explore the castle’s impressive galleries filled with fascinating artwork and artifacts.
From here, we'll travel about 30 minutes to Salem, the once quiet town, now notorious for the infamous witch trials that took place in 1692. Before our adventure continues, you'll have 1.5 hours of free time to have lunch at any of the local restaurants nearby.
Then, with newfound energy, we'll begin a 2-hour and 45-minute guided walking tour of Salem. This historic town was one of the first settlements of the Puritans arriving from England—and later, the site of mass hysteria where over 200 people were accused of witchcraft, many of whom were executed.
As we walk through Salem, we’ll visit landmarks like the Salem Witch Trials Memorial, the Burying Point Cemetery, and the Witch House, home of Judge Jonathan Corwin, who presided over the trials. Each stop offers deeper insight into the events that made Salem famous worldwide.
Before returning to Boston, we'll make a brief 20-minute journey to Proctor's Ledge Memorial, featuring the names of the 19 victims from the Salem Witch Trials who lost their lives.
Finally, we'll begin our journey back to Boston, where we'll bring the experience to an end 8 to 10 hours later.
