On this day trip from Calgary, you'll visit the Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary to learn about their rescue efforts and observe these animals up close.
After picking you up at your hotel, we'll head out to the Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary. We'll leave the city behind, and after an approximately 45-minute drive, we'll enter a landscape transition zone marked by the Rocky Mountains of Alberta.
Once at the sanctuary, we'll take a 2-hour guided tour to get an up-close look at the wolfdogs. These animals combine the genetic traits of a domestic dog and a wolf. During the tour, we'll observe how they move, interact with one another, and respond to stimuli in their environment.
Their body language, the position of their ears, or the distance they maintain from other individuals will allow us to interpret key aspects of their social behavior. Plus, we'll learn about the center's efforts to rescue and relocate wolfdogs.
In many cases, these animals were raised irresponsibly and later abandoned because they were unable to adapt to a home environment. We'll explore why these dogs require specialized care, wide spaces, and very specific management protocols.
After this special experience in the Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary, we'll return to your hotel, where we'll say our goodbyes after a total of 3.5 hours.
