Explore the villages around Castellón de la Plana and enjoy their many charms on our Traiguera & Cervera del Maestre Day Trip from Castellón de la Plana. Olive groves, a medieval castle, and the famous Royal Sanctuary Virgen Fuente de la Salud await!
Traiguera & Cervera del Maestre Day Trip
We'll meet outside the Castellón de la Plana Tourist Office, located in the Plaza de la Hierba. When everyone has arrived, we'll hop on a bus and head to Traiguera. Let's go!
Once we've reached this municipality, we'll visit a farm where we'll be able to see numerous thousand-year-old olive trees, the oldest of which dates back to the year 971! One of the unmissable spots will be the specimen that won the award for the best monumental olive tree in Spain. We'll discover how this 'liquid gold' is locally produced and we'll attend an olive oil tasting accompanied by typical cold meats.
We'll return to the bus and drive to the town of Cervera del Maestre. Here, we'll continue exploring the traditions related to life in the olive groves with a visit to the Oil Mill Visitor Centre, which traces back to the Medieval period.
After this visit, we'll take a tour of the town, strolling through its cobbled streets and admiring its charming buildings. We'll also see the outside of the town's medieval castle, a fortress from which we'll get breathtaking views of the Maestrazgo region.
Our next stop is back in Traiguera at the Royal Sanctuary Virgen Fuente de la Salud, an Asset of Cultural Interest. This stunning complex dates back to the 14th century and combines Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architectural elements. We'll see the old pilgrim's hospice, the beautiful frescoes on the sanctuary's vault, the palace and the priests' house.
Our day trip will end between 2:30 pm and 3 pm back at our starting point.
