The Zwinger Palace, the Sempoper building, the cathedral... On this private walking tour of Dresden, we’ll explore the city’s beautiful old town with an English-speaking guide.
Tour Details
At the time you choose, we’ll meet by the statue of King John I of Saxony on Dresden’s Theaterplatz. Right there, we'll begin our private walking tour of Dresden, a tour during which we'll discover the Saxon city's main landmarks.
Along the way, we'll delve into Dresden’s history as we stroll through the city centre and admire iconic landmarks such as the Zwinger Palace, a masterpiece of Baroque architecture in its purest form, built on the site of a former fortress. You’ll love its ornate façade!
Another of the places we’ll visit is the Semperoper, a building dedicated to opera and designed by the renowned German architect Gottfried Semper. Did you know that Wagner premiered three operas here?
After that, we'll stop at Dresden Palace, which features a variety of architectural styles. The earliest remains of this residence were a 13th-century Romanesque tower.
The tour will continue with a visit to the largest religious building in all of Saxony: the Hofkirche, or Holy Trinity Cathedral. Its sheer scale, the intricate details carved into its sandstone, and its imposing 86 m (282 ft) tower will leave you in awe. Not far from the cathedral, we'll see the Procession of the Princes, a mural composed of 24,000 Meissen porcelain tiles.
Finally, we’ll head to the Frauenkirche, or Church of Our Lady, considered a symbol of Lutheranism. We’ll tell you all about the different stages of its history.
After a tour of Dresden lasting around 2.5 hours, we’ll conclude the tour in the vicinity of the basilica.
