Are you looking to experience the essence of Tuscany in just one day? On this day trip from Florence, we'll visit the medieval towns of Pienza, Montalcino and Monteriggioni, whilst taking in the scenery of the Val d’Orcia.

Day Trip Details

At the indicated time, we'll meet at the Santa Maria Novella station and leave Florence behind as we drive to discover medieval Tuscany.

Our first stop will be Pienza, the ‘ideal city’ of the Renaissance. You’ll have around 1.5 hours of free time to stroll through its romantic streets, such as the Via del Bacio (Kiss Street), and let yourself be enticed by the aroma of its famous Pecorino cheese, which you can sample in the many local shops.

We’ll continue our journey to Montalcino, a medieval gem perched atop a hill and surrounded by vineyards. It’s home to Brunello di Montalcino, one of the world’s finest wines. Here you’ll have around 2.5 hours to explore its imposing fortress and historic alleyways at your leisure.

Our final stop takes us to Monteriggioni, a fortified village that has preserved its 13th-century walls intact. Did you know that this place inspired the famous Assassin’s Creed video game series? We’ll explore its defensive walls and visit the Templar Museum, where we’ll discover the legends of medieval knights and their armour.

Before heading back, we’ll pass through the landscapes of the Val d’Orcia once more, recognising the golden fields where iconic scenes from the film Gladiator were filmed.

Finally, we’ll say our goodbyes at the starting point, after a total of 11 hours.

Tasting in Montalcino: a tasting of 1 glass of Brunello di Montalcino and 1 glass of Rosso di Montalcino, accompanied by a platter of Tuscan cold cuts and cheeses.
Tasting in Monteriggioni: tasting of 3 local wines accompanied by extra virgin olive oil and typical local produce.
