On our day trip to Ingapirca, Gualaceo and Chordeleg, we'll explore the remains of an Inca settlement as well as two beautiful towns located in the province of Azuay. Let's go!
Ingapirca, Gualaceo & Chordeleg Day Trip
At 7:30 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Guayaquil and set off for Ingapirca, an iconic and historic Inca archaeological site.
When we get there, we'll go on a guided tour of this early 16th-century citadel and consider the different hypotheses that suggest that it could have been an observatory of the sun and the moon. We'll visit the square, the Temple of the Sun, the cemetery and the warehouses as we discuss some fun facts about this Cañari town.
Afterwards, we'll go to a local restaurant to get our energy back with a traditional lunch. You'll have a choice of mote (boiled grains) or fritada (a fried pork dish). We'll then head to Chordeleg, a canton famous for its handicrafts, where we'll see pieces made from toquilla straw, metal, gold, silver and clay. This place has over 100 jewellery shops that use ancestral goldsmith techniques.
The last stop on our day trip will be in Gualaceo, where we'll stroll through the markets and stalls that sell fresh fruit and vegetables. We'll also visit a macana workshop and learn about this historic textile technique.
We'll then take you back to your hotel in Guayaquil and drop you off at 5:30 pm.
