Ballenberg is an open-air museum located in Hofstetten bei Brienz, a beautiful town in the canton of Bern on Lake Brienz.
With your ticket to the Ballenberg open-air museum, you can visit more than 100 recreations of the farms, stables, bakeries and barns of rural Switzerland, scattered throughout the complex.
Throughout your visit to Ballenberg, you can also discover first-hand how basket weaving, lace making, blacksmithing, weaving, spinning, carving and other traditional Swiss crafts are carried out.
The museum also has a small zoo where you can get up close and personal with chickens, pigs, calves and other animals commonly found on traditional Swiss farms. The little ones are sure to love this part of the museum!
In the museum's extensive grounds, which extend over 66 hectares (163 acres), you'll find various picnic areas where you can enjoy the food you have brought with you.
The Ballenberg open-air museum is open daily from April 10 to November 2, 2025 from 10 am to 5 pm.
