Delve into the culture and traditions of Pucón's Mapuche community. You'll learn about their customs, rites & dances and even play one of their ancestral sports.
Mapuche Culture Tour
At 2 pm, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Pucón and drive to the outskirts of the city, where we'll visit a local Mapuche community located in the surroundings of the Villarrica Volcano.
During the tour of the community, we'll learn about the culture and history of the Mapuche people, visiting several rucas, or traditional houses. In them, different families will tell us about the worldview of their people, as well as their main customs, dances, rites and religious ceremonies.
You'll also get to participate in different activities in the community, such as toasting wheat and spinning wool. You'll even have the opportunity to try on some traditional Mapuche clothing. Women usually wear a dress called a ñaña, while the most common garment worn by men is called a huentro.
Next, we'll organize several games of palín and chueca, two fun Mapuche sports that we'll teach you how to play. Of course, we'll be sure to reveal the history behind these ancestral activities.
After learning about the history and culture of Chile's largest indigenous group, we'll return to your hotel in Pucón, where we'll arrive at 6 pm.
Pickup
This activity includes pickup from hotels in central Pucón. If you're staying in more remote areas, we'll pick you up at the following pickup point in town: Calle Pedro de Valdivia, 375.
