Admire Orcas' intentional stranding of their prey, an impressive hunting technique that you can see on this day trip to Punta Norte from Puerto Madryn.
Activity Details
We'll start this orca-watching tour after picking you up from your hotel in Puerto Madryn. Once we're ready, we'll embark on a 2-hour road trip to Punta Norte.
Along the way, we'll make strategic stops to learn about the wildlife and geography of this area of the Patagonian coast. You'll be intrigued from the very first moment!
The first stop? El Desempeño, the gateway to the Península Valdés Protected Natural Area. As soon as we arrive, we'll be amazed by the views of the coastline and the arid landscapes of the region. Afterwards, we'll continue to the Carlos Ameghino Visitor Centre, where we'll talk to you about the secrets of the orcas and their impressive hunting technique.
We'll then reach our main destination: Punta Norte. There, we'll go to one of the best viewpoints on the beach, where we'll wait patiently and excitedly for the first sightings of these mammals. We'll be in an area renowned for being one of the places in the world where orcas have developed the amazing strategy of intentional stranding in a safe way.
If we're lucky, we'll see them dive onto the beach to catch the sea lion pups, a scene that only happens in a few places on the planet! During the waiting time, we'll also be able to spot seabirds and other species that live in the area.
After this thrilling experience, we'll make our way back to Puerto Madryn, where we'll say goodbye at your hotel 9 hours after pickup.
Orca Spotting
Please keep in mind that whether or not we see whales, and how many we see, will depend on ocean currents, wind direction and many other natural factors.
