The capital of the Los Ríos region is one of the main historical cities in Chile. Discover its past on this excursion to Valdivia, whose great monumental heritage is sure to surprise you.
Valdivia Private Excursion
We'll pick you up at your hotel at 8 am. From here, we'll leave the Chilean region of Los Lagos behind to travel to the capital of Los Ríos, named Valdivia after the Spanish conquistador Pedro de Valdivia, who founded the city in 1522.
We'll begin our tour of Valdivia by walking along Avenida Arturo Pratt, a long waterfront bordering the Calle-Calle River. In this part of the city, we'll visit the Feria Fluvial, a riverside market where we can enjoy excellent views of the History and Contemporary Art Museums, located on the other side of the river.
After visiting the Feria Fluvial, where you can have a drink on your own, we'll continue our route through Valdivia on the central Avenida General Lagos. This long street will take us across the city's oldest district until we reach the Torreón del Canelo, a watchtower built by the Spaniards.
We'll continue our tour through the historic center of Valdivia next to the Church of San Francisco. From there we'll continue to Plaza de la República, its Plaza de Armas, or main square, where we'll observe the façade of the cathedral and the seat of the government . Then, we'll go to the Pedro de Valdivia Bridge to cross the Calle-Calle River to Teja Island.
Following the route to the south of the island, we'll arrive at the small town of Niebla, where the Valdivia River empties its waters into the Pacific Ocean. In fact, the strategic location of this mouth led the Spaniards to build the castle of Niebla. We'll visit the museum inside this fort, where we'll learn about the history of this important defensive bastion.
Finally, from the castle of Niebla, we'll return to your hotel, arriving eleven hours after pickup.
