Not sure what to do in Rome with children? Switch into explorer mode with this family-friendly tour of the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. We'll meet in front of the Arch of Constantine and kick off a journey through time filled with riddles, games, and prizes. Let's go!
We'll start our visit at the Colosseum, the most famous Roman amphitheater in the world. As we make our way through its entrances, we'll explain how the ancient Romans managed thousands of spectators using the vomitoria, the amphitheater's exit corridors. Did you know the Colosseum could hold more than 50,000 people and was designed to empty out in just a few minutes?
We'll take in the travertine arches, the vaulted structure, and the tiers of seating, imagining where senators, families, and the rowdiest fans used to sit.
Next, we'll head to the Roman Forum, the political and social heart of the city during the Roman Empire. We'll walk among temples and columns that still have stories to tell, and it will be up to us to decode them. Did you know that laws were debated and victories celebrated right here in the Forum?
Through a series of clues and challenges, we'll identify key sites and piece together how Rome grew from a single city into an entire empire. Don't worry, though—there will be no yawning like in a history class. This is pure fun!
We'll wrap up just outside the Palatine Hill after 2 hours of guided exploration.
