Lampivaara Amethyst Mine Day Trip
After picking you up from your hotel in Rovaniemi, we’ll board a bus and head north. The trip will take about 1.5 hours until we reach the Lappish town of Luosto, near which the Lampivaara amethyst mine is located.
To reach the top of the hill in which the mine is located, you'll climb onto a snowcat, a vehicle that will take you through the snow on a beautiful route through the incredible snow-capped forests of Finland. If you take the tour in the summer, we'll travel this route directly by car.
Once we reach the summit, we’ll take a walk to the amethyst mine, which dates back more than 2,000 years. There, we’ll begin a guided tour of the woodworking facilities, where we’ll learn about the main uses of amethyst jewelry. Amethyst is considered Lapland’s most famous and iconic gemstone. You’ll fall in love with the violet color and brilliance of this type of quartz.
What's more, you'll have the opportunity to visit the excavation zone so you can dig up your own pieces of amethyst and take them home as a souvenir of your visit to one of the few gemstone mines in the world that welcomes tourists.
As you exit the depths of Lampivaara mine, you'll be able to enjoy the most stunning views of the surrounding countryside from your hilltop location. Don't forget your camera!
Finally, after this magical experience, we’ll return to the center in Rovaniemi after 5 hours of activity.
