Day Trip Details
At the indicated time, we will pick you up at your hotel in Salta and head toward the Puna Salteña, ascending through the iconic Quebrada del Toro. Along the way, we will see the first viaducts of the Tren a las Nubes, an engineering work that defies Andean geography.
After almost 2 hours of travel, we will reach Santa Rosa de Tastil. This small town is home to one of the most important archaeological sites in Argentina. Here, we will make a 30-minute stop to stretch our legs and rest.
We will continue the journey for another hour to San Antonio de los Cobres. There, we will discover the mining heart of the region, located at almost 4000 meters (13,000 feet) above sea level. Did you know it is the highest point of Route 40?
You will have 1 hour and 30 minutes of free time during which you can appreciate the contrast between the harshness of the high plateau and the warmth of the locals. We also recommend taking the opportunity to try local cuisine.
The tour will finally lead us to our star destination of the day: the Tuzgle hot springs. After a 1-hour trip, we will arrive at this thermal oasis and see how the landscape opens up in the vastness of the puna.
At the Tuzgle hot springs, you will have 1 hour and 30 minutes of free time to soak in the warm waters and relax surrounded by a unique setting with brown tones of the high plateau.
Finally, we will begin the 3.5-hour return journey to Salta. We will say goodbye by dropping you off at your hotel after a total of 15 hours of this day trip.
