On this São Luís guided tour, you'll discover the history and legacy of the Capital of the Brazilian State of Maranhão. You'll be amazed!
Description
At the time indicated, we'll meet at the cathedral in São Luís to start our guided visit around the capital of the state of Maranhão. A route full of history and curiosities awaits us!
With presentations over, we'll start by talking about one of the icons in São Luís, the Metropolitan Cathedral. Built in the 17th century, this temple has Portuguese influence. Did you know that this moment forms part of the Patriarchate of Lisbon? Today, it's on UNESCO's list of World Heritage buildings.
Once we've learned about this building's historical context, we'll visit the Praça Benedito Leite on the other side of the street. We'll walk up to Rua Portugal, where we can admire the coloured tiled façades of buildings, and we'll pass by Rua do Giz, which crosses the city from north to south with traditional balconies. You'll love these types of constructions.
We'll visit other places, such as the Praça dos Poetas, a square that honours the writers from the state of Maranhão, and the Praça Dom Pedro II. We'll also make a stop opposite the Palacio dos Leões Palace, the state Government headquarters, and the Ravardière Palace, the city of São Luís headquarters.
Finally, we'll head to Casa das Tulhas, a traditional market where we can learn a bit about local artisanal production.
We'll end our tour after a 2-hour guided visit around São Luís.
