This tour will take you along the Georgian Military Road to Ananuri Castle, the Jinvali Water Reservoir, and Kazbegi, a village in the Caucasus Mountains.

Kazbegi & Ananuri Castle Day Trip

We'll meet at the Avlabari metro station, and from this spot in Tbilisi, we'll head toward the Georgian Military Road, an impressive route that crosses the Caucasus mountain range.

After around an hour and a half's drive, we'll arrive at the first stop on our tour: the Jinvali Water Reservoir, whose mesmerizing turquoise blue waters contrast perfectly with the green mountainous landscape. Then we'll continue the road trip to the fortress of Ananuri, a defensive building built on the Aragvi River that served as the scene of numerous battles during the Middle Ages.

At noon we'll leave you free time in Pasanauri to have lunch on your own and taste some local dishes. We recommend the khinkali, delicious Georgian dumplings typical of this town.

After the break, we'll continue the excursion by visiting the Russia - Georgia Friendship Monument. This large stone and concrete structure overlooking the Devil's Valley in the Caucasus Mountains was built to celebrate the bicentenary of the Treaty of Georgievsk in 1983.

From here, we'll head to Kazbegi, one of the most visited villages in Georgia, thanks to its privileged location in the middle of the beautiful Caucasus mountain range. From here, you can choose to take a trip by 4x4 up to the iconic Gergeti Trinity Church, which stands on a hill overlooking Mount Kazbegi at over 16404 ft (5000 m) high.

The last stop of the tour will be the Rooms Hotel Kazbegi, a luxurious accommodation offering magnificent views of Stepantsminda. Finally, after a total of 10 hours, we'll say our goodbyes back at the initial meeting point.

Itinerary Changes

From December to March, the visit to the Russia-Georgia Friendship Monument will be replaced with a visit to the Gudauri ski resort.

If the weather conditions during the winter do not allow access to the Gergeti Trinity Church, you'll spend more time at the Gudauri ski resort.
