Tour Details
We'll meet up at your hotel at 10:30 am to start a tour of the alternative side of Valparaiso. You will have the opportunity to discover the contrasts of the cultural and human heritage of the iconic Chilean city.
First of all, we'll visit the Barrio Puerto, one of the oldest and least touristic areas of the city. As we walk through it, we'll learn how this area is considered a Heritage Site, thanks to its architectural and cultural richness. We'll stroll through its streets where you can still see some small family-run shops, bars and old chemists' shops.
Next, we'll continue with a visit to the church of La Matriz, which with its porteño style stands in the heart of the historic centre of Valparaíso. Did you know that it's the centre of humanitarian aid in the Barrio Puerto? We'll discover how it carries out its work and why it is so well-loved.
We'll also visit the Mercado Puerto, a popular jewel of architecture that preserves the daily life of Valparaíso. Although today it does not have the activity of yesteryear, we'll see how it still preserves some traditional stalls such as bakeries, neighbourhood hairdressers and shops that seem to have been frozen in time. From there, we'll approach the Santo Domingo Hill, the first to be inhabited in the city and from where we can appreciate the great contrasts of Valparaíso.
To finish on a high note, we'll take you to the house of a family on the oldest hill in Valparaíso to share a traditional lunch with them. Afterwards, we'll visit the house of a puppet artist and enjoy a short show of miniature lambe-lambe theatre. It will be an intimate and poetic performance that will give an emotional ending to the tour.
Finally, we'll begin our return journey and drop you back at your hotel at 3:30 pm.
