On this free tour of Ancud, we'll discover the history and main monuments of one of the most important cities in the Chiloé Archipelago. We'll learn about its links with the Spanish monarchy and remember how its independence process was conceived.
Ancud Free Tour
At the indicated time, we'll meet at Arturo Prat 112 to start this free tour of Ancud. Let's get to know the former capital of the province of Chiloé!
We'll first walk around the Plaza de Armas, where we'll discover the origins of this city founded by the Spaniards more than 400 years ago. We'll also see different mythological sculptures that will allow us to learn more about Chilean beliefs.
We'll also visit the Cathedral of Ancud, built at the end of the 20th century on the same site as the previous temple. Did you know that it collapsed in a tragic earthquake in 1960? We'll continue to explore the city's religious culture by visiting the Museum of the Churches of Chiloé.
Afterwards, we'll head to the market, where we'll find fruit, vegetables and cheeses, as well as craft shops. We'll continue our walk until we reach the San Antonio Fort, built by order of Carlos III to defend these lands from enemies. At this point, we'll talk about how the independence of Chiloé came about, a fascinating chapter in the history of Ancud.
After a 2.5-hour tour, we'll end the guided tour by saying goodbye at the Plazoleta Goleta Ancud.
