Climb to over 13,100 feet above sea level with this excursion to the frozen lagoon of the Carihuairazo volcano. An incredible route through a glacial landscape!
Carihuairazo Volcano Laguna Congelada Tour
At 8 am on the morning of the tour, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Baños de Agua Santa. From there, we'll travel west by minibus until we reach the Chimborazo Fauna Production Reserve, about two hours away.
From the moment we arrive, you'll be amazed by the sight of the Chimborazo volcano. Its 20,700 feet (6,310 meters) make it the highest peak in Ecuador! Nearby is the Carihuairazo volcano, our goal for the day.
We'll begin a 3-hour hiking route that will take us to explore the wilderness surrounding the two volcanoes. We'll walk through snowy terrain admiring high peaks and extensive valleys until we reach the frozen lagoon of Carihuairazo, known as the Laguna Congelada.
While you take pictures of this icy spring, we'll tell you how this place was formed millions of years ago as a result of the melting of the glacier of the Carihuairazo volcano.
Then, we'll take a break next to the frozen lagoon to enjoy a delicious picnic that includes a sandwich, fruit and juice. Once we have regained some of our strength, we'll start on our way back down.
Returning to the minibus, we'll head back to your hotel, where the excursion will finish at 5 pm.
