Chimborazo Volcano 2-Day Hiking Tour
Day 1
Between 7 and 8 am, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Baños de Agua Santa. Before leaving, the mountain guide will explain everything you need to know about the hiking equipment: the outer layer, boots, ropes, harness, crampons and ice axes. Then we'll make our way to Riobamba, where we'll start the first leg of our route up the Chimborazo volcano.
First, we'll climb to a refuge located at an elevation of 4,800 meters, followed by a second one at 5,000 meters. At the latter, we'll have soup, a meat dish and some juice to refuel. Then in the afternoon, we'll learn some basic techniques for the next day's ascent.
For dinner, we'll have a meat or chicken dish with juice, after which we'll rest until midnight.
Day 2
At midnight, we'll get up to continue the route up the mountain. Before setting off, we'll have a snack consisting of bread, fruit and tea or coffee. With our batteries recharged, we'll begin a six-hour hike to the summit, at 6,263 meters of altitude.
Once we reach the top of Chimborazo, we'll check out part of the glacier that covers the highest peak and enjoy stunning views of the Central Andes. Did you know that the Inca civilization performed rituals and sacrifices on this mountain? After admiring the breathtaking scenery, we'll return to the refuge.
Finally, we'll descend to the base to take the bus back to Baños de Agua Santa. Arrival at your hotel is scheduled for 2 pm.
