Discover all the secrets of olive oil production on this guided tour of the San Francisco olive oil mill in Begíjar. Located only 5 km (3 miles) from Baeza, one of the 15 Spanish cities declared a World Heritage Site.
Olive Oil Mill Guided Tour
We'll meet at the reception of the Almazara San Francisco, located in the town of Begíjar. Our starting point will be an introduction to the world of olive oil, explaining the social and natural context of the region and showing you the different varieties of olives and oil.
We'll then start our guided tour of the old olive mill, where virgin olive oils of the highest quality have been produced since 1927. We'll get an up-close look at the machinery that was used in the past, understand how it worked and learn about the particular history of this olive oil company.
At the end of this part of the visit, we'll move forward in time to the present day, exploring the modern San Francisco factory. We'll be able to see how olive oil and its different varieties are produced today.
To finish on a high note, we'll enjoy an exquisite guided tasting of three types of extra virgin olive oil. We'll learn to distinguish them, understand their nuances and enjoy their unique flavour! 1.5 hours later, we'll conclude our tour.
Olive Oil Mill & Olive Grove Tour
Want to make your visit even more complete? With this option, you'll also visit an olive grove. We'll leave the countryside to discover the landscape and stroll among ancient and young olive trees, where you'll learn how these trees are treated and their irrigation systems.
Once we've concluded our tour of the olive grove, we'll continue visiting the oil mill previously described. Our tour will finish 3 hours later.
