The colonial past of Minas Gerais is very present in Sabará and Congonhas. We'll discover the main monuments of both Brazilian towns on this excursion from Belo Horizonte.
Sabará + Congonhas Tour
After picking you up at your hotel in Belo Horizonte at the indicated time, we'll leave the capital of the state of Minas Gerais and head east.
The first stop will be in Sabará, where we'll take a guided tour of the beautiful old town. On this walk we'll see the monuments of Dom Pedro II street and see the church of Nossa Senhora do Rosário dos Pretos. We'll also pass by the Municipal Theatre and in front of the churches of Nossa Senhora do Ó and Nossa Senhora do Carmo.
We'll continue the tour in front of the Kaquende fountain. According to a legend, those who drink from it always return to Sabará. Would you like to try it? We'll conclude the tour by going to a restaurant where you'll have an hour free for lunch.
After lunch, we'll leave for Congonhas to visit the local museum and the venerated sanctuary of Bom Jesus de Matosinhos. Afterwards, we'll see the Passos da Paixão. This is an exhibition of 66 processional steps carved by great artists such as Aleijadinho: one of the main representatives of the Brazilian baroque. We'll also see the sculptures of the Twelve Prophets, which were sculpted by the master Aleijadinho himself.
Finally, from Congonhas we'll return to Belo Horizonte. Arrival at your hotel is scheduled 10 hours after pickup.
