If you're in Bento Gonçalves and want to visit the best sparkling wine-producing estates in Brazil, you can't miss this tour of the Rota dos Espumantes.
Tour Details
We'll pick you up at your hotel in Bento Gonçalves at the designated time to start this tour of the Rota dos Espumantes, where we'll learn about the history of champagne in Brazil.
It all started when the Italian immigrant Manoel Peterlongo decided to make his favourite drink from when he lived in Europe. It was 1913 and Peterlongo followed the natural fermentation process already used by the French Dom Pérignon to make the first Brazilian sparkling wine or 'espumante' as it's known.
The Rota dos Espumantes includes 17 wineries, and on this tour, we’ll visit two of the most renowned. To start off, we’ll stop at the Devorata Chocolate Truffle Shop, known for its unique truffles made with sparkling wine.
Next, we’ll head to Peterlongo Winery, a pioneer in Brazilian sparkling wine and the only winery in the country authorized to use the word "champagne" on its labels. Its main building, with castle-like architecture inspired by the wineries of France’s Champagne region, is sure to impress. We’ll explore its 10,000-square-meter underground wine cellar and enjoy a tasting session. We’ll also revisit the Devorata shop to indulge a bit more in their signature truffles.
Our last stop will be at Vinícola Garibaldi, a co-op with more than 90 years of history and more than 430 families dedicated to grape production. Here we'll get to know all the sparkling wines produced by the estate before returning to Bento Gonçalves.
We'll finish the tour at your hotel after 4 hours.
