Why Visit Biron Castle?
As the largest castle in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, Biron Castle welcomes visitors on a journey back in time. Travel back 1,000 years as you explore art exhibits, stunning architecture, and views of the French countryside with your ticket!
Biron Castle was built in the 12th century by the Gontaut-Biron family and grew over the centuries into its current form. After 24 generations, the family gave it to France, and it became a historical landmark.
With the help of an audio guide, you'll make your way through this architectural complex on a journey through 14 buildings, all a rich blend of medieval, Renaissance, and classical architecture.
Explore the seigniorial chapel and admire the intricate sculptures added during restorations, which were heavily influenced by Italian and classical architectural styles. Plus, be sure to head to the top of Tour Anglaise for breathtaking panoramic views of the Périgord and Agenais regions, at the foot of the castle.
After exploring the castle and its grounds, you can also take advantage of the on-site restaurant available, so you can try local French cuisine made fresh with products from the region. Bon appétit!
