Traiguera & Cervera del Maestre Day Trip
Let's explore the villages around Oropesa del Mar! We'll meet at 9 am in front of this town's Tourist Office, which is located in the Plaza París. Once we've all arrived, we'll hop onto our bus and set off on the 1-hour drive to Traiguera.
When we get there, we'll find ourselves at an estate filled with thousand-year-old olive groves. We'll learn how these trees are cultivated so successfully, as the oldest one dates back to the year 971! During our visit, we'll also learn how Traiguera's olive oil is produced. We'll taste some of this liquid gold accompanied by a selection of cold meats.
Our day trip will then take us to the town of Cervera del Maestre. We'll stroll through its cobbled streets, visit the Oil Mill Visitor Centre and see some of the town's most iconic monuments. These monuments include the old medieval fish market, the Church of the Assumption and the Cervera del Maestre Castle. We'll travel back in time to Spain's Reconquista period and discuss this fortress' defensive role.
After the guided tour, we'll get back on our bus and return to Traiguera to visit the Royal Sanctuary of the Virgen María de la Font de la Salud. We'll discuss the spot's fascinating history and how it dates back to the reign of Charles V as we visit its guest house, the priests' house, the kitchen and the hermitage.
We'll say our goodbyes and finish our day trip at 2:30 pm back at the starting point.
