Catamarca Tour
We'll pick you up at 6 am at your hotel in Termas de Río Hondo, and from there we'll depart in a south-westerly direction, with some great surprises in store for us!
First we'll pass through Villa Río Hondo and then we'll leave the region of Santiago del Estero behind us and enter the territory of Catamarca. In this north-western province of Argentina, bordering Chile, we'll make our first stop at the Cuesta del Portezuelo viewpoint. The views from this exceptional vantage point are sure to leave you speechless.
After contemplating the beautiful scenery from the viewpoint, we'll descend to San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca, the provincial capital. Once there, we'll take a tour through the historic centre of the city to discover the great monumental heritage of this picturesque town.
We'll start the tour of Catamarca contemplating the imposing church and convent of San Francisco. The tour will continue with a visit to the interior of the cathedral of Nuestra Señora del Valle, where we'll see the famous "camarín" (small chapel). Do you know why this place is so special? We'll find out!
At the end of the tour of the cathedral you'll have an hour free for lunch. After regaining our strength, we'll go to the outskirts of the city to visit the grotto of the Virgin of the Valley of Catamarca: one of the most fervent places in the province.
Finally, we'll make a last stop in front of the El Jumeal dam to contemplate its landscapes and, from there, we'll return to Termas de Río Hondo. Arrival at your hotel is scheduled for 7 pm.
