Are you planning a getaway to the imperial city? There’s definitely one monument you can’t leave off your must-see list. By booking tickets to the Toledo Cathedral, you can explore the Primatial Cathedral. It's one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in Europe at your own pace.
Ticket Details
Welcome to the Primatial Cathedral of Spain! With your ticket, you can take a leisurely stroll through the cloister and admire the spectacular Main Chapel, whose monumental gilded altarpiece depicts scenes from the life of Christ in astonishing detail. Directly across from it, you’ll find the Choir, a masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture carved in wood by Alonso Berruguete and Felipe Vigarny.
Don’t forget to look for the famous “Transparente” by Narciso Tomé, a masterpiece of Spanish Baroque where sculpture and architecture come together to let a beam of light shine through. You also can’t miss the Chapter House, which will welcome you with a dazzling Mudejar coffered ceiling and Renaissance frescoes by Juan de Borgoña.
For art lovers, the tour holds a magical spot: the Sacristy. Transformed into a unique art gallery, its walls are adorned with original paintings by geniuses of world art such as Goya, Titian, Caravaggio, and Raphael. The star of this room is, without a doubt, El Greco’s "The Expolio", with its red robe that captures everyone’s gaze beneath the vault painted by Lucas Jordán.
Before ending your tour of the cathedral, be sure to stop by and admire the crown jewel: the Monstrance of Enrique de Arfe. Did you know that this piece of goldsmithing is crafted from silver and gold? And that it is the central emblem of Toledo’s Corpus Christi procession?
The estimated duration of a self-guided tour is 2 hours.
