On this guided tour of Tropea, we'll visit the historic center of one of the most beautiful towns on the Tyrrhenian Sea. Welcome to the Calabria region!
Tropea Guided Tour
At the appointed time, we'll meet at Largo San Michele to begin this guided tour of Tropea. Did you know that it's considered one of the most beautiful towns in Calabria? Let's see why!
We'll start by walking through the quaint alleys of Tropea and taking a look at its architecture. This city is known, among many other things, for the Sanctuary of Santa Maria dell'Isola, its beautiful historic center, and magnificent white sandy beaches.
We'll then stop in front of the Cathedral of Maria Santissima di Romania, built in the 12th century by the Normans. There we'll tell you about this temple, which during the 17th century was transformed into the Baroque style and lengthened by 12 meters. Throughout history, it has suffered a lot of damage due to multiple earthquakes and has had to be restored on numerous occasions.
We'll continue our tour of Tropea walking to its most beautiful viewpoints - don't forget your camera! The views of the Tyrrhenian Sea and its intensely blue waters will have you falling in love.
Of course, we can't end our visit without approaching the famous Sanctuary of Santa Maria dell'Isola. Although the first writings of the monastery date back to the 11th century, it's said that the rock on which it's located was inhabited between the 7th and 8th centuries by hermits. We'll tell you all kinds of curiosities like this during the tour!
After two and a half hours, we'll conclude the guided tour of Tropea back at the meeting point.
